"I came across several resources that your students might find helpful. The first was the book builder, the person who takes the computer-ready manuscript and creates a layout and file that the printer can use. She also works with the author to determine what the cover is going to look like and be made of, what kind, color, and weight of paper is to be used, the font of the type, the chapter heading style, what the table of contents is going to look like, and a few more items. Hers is both an artistic and mechanical job—not one to be attempted by amateurs in my opinion. I found Spring Book Design in St. Paul to be easy to work with and highly professional. Dorie knows books the way a surgeon knows his/her way around a body. Her website is worth looking at by anyone thinking about writing and publishing a book."
